Jon Mowat from Hurricane Social is one of our exhibitors and holds an excellent talk on how to dominate social media using emotion.
But how do you do this – and is it the best idea?
Using emotion in social media in social media isn’t as complicated as it seems. To effectively dominate social search, brands need to have a solid strategy; create shareable content that resonates with their target audience by understanding social media algorithms, focus on emotional storytelling, and build genuine connections. This involves tailoring content to specific platforms, discussing trends, and building a sense of community.
What are some key strategies that you can use for social search domination?
Understand social media algorithms
Each platform has its own algorithm that determines what content is prioritised and shown to users. Brands need to research and adapt their strategies to the specific rules of each platform, such as prioritising Reels and interactive content on Instagram or longer-form content on Facebook.
Create engaging and shareable content
This should be content that evokes emotion, tells a compelling story, and provides value to the audience that is more likely to be shared and remembered.
Personalise content
What’s your audience? Content that is tailored to those on your market, and taking into account their individual preferences and interests is then perceived as more relevant and engaging.
Make sure you utilise timeliness and context
Read the news and keep up! Content that is timely and relevant to current events or conversations within specific communities is more likely to be noticed and shared.
Build trust and authenticity
They want to know about you…transparency, behind-the-scenes content, and genuine engagement with your audience can build trust and loyalty.
Optimise for social SEO
By incorporating relevant keywords, trending audio, and hashtags you can improve content visibility in social search results.
Encourage engagement
Make it fun! Cos nobody wants to be bored or too serious on socials. Ask questions, run polls, and create opportunities for interaction to create a sense of community and encourage users to share content.
Track and analyse performance
It’s always good to monitor metrics. Look at likes, clicks, likes, comments, and shares to understand what resonates with the audience and can lead you to changing/improving/optimising future content.
Humanise the brand
Who is your brand aimed at? People! They’re your one and only audience. People sell to people. Showcase YOUR people behind your brand and share stories that connect with the audience on a personal level.
Test and refine
SO important – continuously experiment with different content formats, headlines, and calls to action to optimise for maximum impact. Change it up and see what works/doesn’t work. Make sure you implement any new changes and LISTEN TO YOUR AUDIENCE!
