This week’s guest blog is from Canny Creative – about not leaving your website to rot…
Too many businesses launch a website with excitement, only to abandon it soon after.
No new content. No updates. No strategy.
Just sitting there. Slowly decaying in the website graveyard.
And then the questions start; why isn’t it generating leads? Why is traffic declining? Why is
the competition outranking us?
A website isn’t a one-and-done project.
It should be a lead-generating machine. If you don’t maintain your website it, it’s about as
useful as a brochure from 2014, lost in a pile of outdated marketing materials.
The biggest offenders? Websites that look alive but aren’t doing anything for the business. A
sleek homepage, some nice graphics, maybe a blog post from two years ago. But no real
substance. No pulse. No movement.
The Problem With ‘Set and Forget’ Websites
If your website isn’t updated regularly, Google stops paying attention.
Visitors stop coming because they don’t see anything new. Your competitors move ahead
because they’ve invested in fresh, relevant content. Meanwhile, your website drifts further
into obscurity.
The digital world moves fast. If your site isn’t keeping up, it’s falling behind.
And let’s be clear, if your website isn’t working for you, it’s working against you.
Sliders Don’t Solve Weak Messaging.
One of the most overused things we see on a website is sliders.
“We need to show multiple messages,” someone says. “Let’s add a slider!”
Because people definitely want to sit through a PowerPoint presentation before deciding if
they trust your business.
The reality? Sliders don’t engage visitors. They distract. They water down your core message. Instead of delivering a strong, clear statement, they make users scroll past the one thing they should understand immediately.
If your message isn’t clear the second someone lands on your site, you’ve lost them. No second chances.
How to Bring Your Website Back to Life
A strong website needs regular attention. That means:
● Reviewing performance and adjusting your strategy
● Updating content consistently to attract traffic
● Simplifying your user experience
● Doing everything you can to increase conversions
And it starts with a proper plan. Before you do anything else, you need a solid web design
brief. This outlines what your website should achieve, who it’s for, and how it will generate
leads.
Without this foundation, your website is just another forgotten relic in the graveyard of the
internet.
Make Your Website Work for You
A website should be a 24/7 sales tool, not a tombstone marking the death of good marketing intentions.
If yours isn’t generating leads, it’s time to breathe new life into it. And that starts with having a strategy.
Don’t leave your website for the ghouls in the graveyard.
